Marcelo Jabulas | @mjabulas – Every time the Earth revolves around the Sun we are guaranteed a new Big Brother, Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, “Fifa” and “PES”. It’s easier to cancel the reality show and religious dates than it is to miss a new edition of football games. This week, Konami released the “New Football Game Online Performance Test” by surprise.
As the name suggests, this is a test to assess the behavior, not of the game, but of the servers for the next edition of the four-line game which will be unveiled on July 21. In other words, you can only play online. Anyone who wants to try the demo can download it for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. Content will be available until July 8.
First of all, it’s worth mentioning that the content is the draft of the “Football PES 2022” draft, which uses the Unreal graphics engine. This engine is used in thousands of games, such as “Doom”, “Spinter Cell” and has been established over the years. From now on, it will serve as the development base for the game.
But don’t expect refinement at this point. The game is still ugly. And the club offer comes down to Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. But the good thing is that you don’t have to be a PSN or Xbox Live subscriber to hit a ball.
Again, playing “PES” is much easier than playing “Fifa”. The game is more user-friendly, with that “magnetic” touch of the ball that always comes back to your teammate on the field. It’s quite different from the EA Sports game, where you have to be millimeter on a two-meter pass.
With the ball in the foot, control is easier, it does not take a genius to dribble, dribble, as well as other fundamentals of Breton sport. Of course, to give a hat or repeat a cow dribble, you need to familiarize yourself with the joystick. In other words, playing “PES” is always fun.
If Konami’s goal was to test the servers and the fluidity of the game, we can say that it hit an eight. The game is not ready yet, so we can ignore the animation flaws, but during the game the game went smoothly with no lag in the controls. Of course, a fiber optic connection makes it easier.
New PES look
The crux of this demo is the look, which left a lot to be desired. But in this regard, we must be fair. We tested the demo on PS4, which went from being a current console to being a veteran of the PS5 and Xbox Series.
Despite everything, the quality is very poor and we can say that we have seen more elaborate editions of “PES” on PS2, with regard to the characterization of the athletes. Even Lionel Messi, the eternal poster boy of the franchise, was not quite finished. But even worse is the look of the guy Cristiano Ronaldo. CR7 appears disfigured in the demo.
The argument is that this is a pre-Alpha edition. That is, it is only a preview. And you can see it in the imperfect sound design, in the voiceover that disappears much of the game, as well as in the animations in which the players slide across the field, like in a special effect of Chapolin Colorado.
On the other hand, we have to remember again that this is a test of server and game mechanics. Although it is rude and with few team options, it is still enjoyable. to give the public the opportunity to participate in every step of the development process.
After all, belt football is always welcome, as the saying goes: “There is no ugly goal, ugly one does not score!”
